Treat All Players with Respect - Regardless of talent level, treat each player as you would like to be treated. Some may not be as talented but your level of interaction with them, positive influence and behavior will help them develop and love the game of football, and who knows eventually even become your star player.
Structure Engaging Practices - Learn a good system for having a good healthy and productive practice. Find good assistant coaches that know certain postions, offenses, defense and always, split up in groups. Make practice fun, engaging and entertaining. Kids want information through stimulation. Don't run the life out of your kids. Conditioning is important, but football is not a marathon sport. Most of all have fun. More than likely, if your team is having fun, winning comes natural.
Get a Team Mom- Find a Mom from your team who is willing to help by being heavily involved in the following: Interaction with parents, Handling team/player issues, delegating team treats, posters, banners on game day, updating website with scores and practice schedules, tracking amount of plays for each player on game day. Having a team Mom will not only help alleviate the many duties of a coach, it will help bring your team togetether as a real team family. Get a team mom and focus on coaching, you'll be amazed the difference this will make.
Know the By Laws - Get to know the Youth Football USA By Laws. This will help ensure that you and your team abide by the rules and keep any penalties resulting from not knowing to a minimum.
Respect Officials - Officials from Youth Football USA come from all different walks of life, backgrounds, cultures and way of life. But they all have one thing in common, they all love the game of football and love teaching and serving the youth of our league. Please keep that in mind and show respect when playing the game. Officials are there to help our kids have that same love and passion for the game as they do. Do not show disrepect to the officials. Remember to always treat officials with respect, even if there is a bad call. There is never a perfect officiated game even in the NFL. Lets teach our kids how to respect and love the game as we all do.
